We see the reflection and are tricked into believing it is our real self. We see pictures and struggle to recognize ourselves. The reflection is the illusion we see every day. The photograph is foreign to our self image. We choose the imperfect reflection.

Reenacting the Siege of the Alamo
The siege and fall of the Alamo in 1836 are touchstone events in the history of Texas. “Remember the Alamo!” Was a battle cry heard everywhere in Texas after the defenders were put to the sword. It is still heard today. Reenactments of the battle take place in late February and early March drawing thousands of visitors to Alamo Plaza in San Antonio. They tend to be elaborate affairs with dozens of participants in period dress and equipped with authentic weapons. The battle scenes can be quite noisy with cannon and rifle fire.
Shadows
We start out running to explore our world, chafing against any hint of restraint. We learn, grow, have productive lives and raise children who then run further on in front of us. We begin to pace ourselves, conserving as best we can for the future.
Regardless of how deep the shadows become we strive to push ahead. Some see wisdom in our determination to continue forward. Maybe we are just too stubborn to quit.
